Fishing in Loreto

Loreto sits on the shores of the Sea of Cortez, famously called "The Aquarium of the World" by legendary ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau. These waters are home to an extraordinary diversity of marine life, making Loreto one of Mexico's premier sport fishing destinations.

In 1996, the Mexican government established the Loreto Bay National Marine Park, protecting over 206,000 hectares of ocean surrounding the Islands of Loreto. This protected marine environment helps sustain the rich fishing grounds that anglers from around the world travel to experience.

Loreto is one of the oldest settlements in Baja California Sur, founded in 1697 as the first Spanish mission in the Californias. Today it remains a small, authentic Mexican town — no high-rises, no cruise ships — just warm people, clear waters, and world-class fishing.

Captain Rey and his family are from Loreto — born and raised in these waters. When you fish with Captain Rey, you're not just hiring a guide; you're fishing with someone who has spent his entire life learning every reef, every current, and every season of the Sea of Cortez.
